    Wire

     

    T&D Materials manufactures and supplies premium molybdenum wire.

    Tungsten lamp filaments, which operate at temperatures in the range of 2400° C, are successfully mounted on molybdenum wires; the wire acting both as a heat sink and a support while lowering the temperature at the support junction. Likewise, molybdenum sees wide use in the construction of power tube grids and support structures which also require high temperature strength, low vapor pressure and low thermal expansion. High temperature vacuum and hydrogen atmosphere furnaces also rely on the use of molybdenum rod and molybdenum wire to form resistance heating elements.

    Molybdenum Wire Types

    T & D produces four types of molybdenum wire – Pure, HCT (potassium-silicate doped), MoLa (lanthanum oxide doped), and MB (molybdenum-tungsten alloy—various compositions). Diameter sizes range from 0.001 inches to 0.250 inches.

    The Pure molybdenum wire products find use in most standard applications for production of mandrels, supports, furnace elements, furnace windings and formed parts.

    HCT molybdenum wire and MoLa molybdenum wire are doped products which have higher recrystallization temperatures, and for diameters below 0.090 inches, they exhibit better ductility after recrystallization. It is used in more demanding applications, such as for halogen lamp leads where it provides superior weld ability and glass-to-metal seal properties. Application temperature limits for MoLa exceed those of HCT, and MoLa finds applications where the limits of HCT are reached.

    MB tungsten wire is an alloyed product of molybdenum with tungsten (typically 50:50, with others available upon request). It combines the properties of tungsten and molybdenum to offer blended properties with unique resistance and oxide color capabilities that find applications in automotive and aircraft windshield heating (defrosting).
